The 2009 budget reviews confirmed that a £2000 Government Scrappage Scheme would be implemented on all vehicles over ten years old, when traded in for a new vehicle. Running from 18th May 2009 until March 2010.

The scrappage scheme eligibility is as follows:
The vehicle that is traded in must:

be a car or small van weighing up to 3,500kg

be first registered in the UK on or before 31 August 1999
-
either be registered or have a SORN with the driver and vehicle licensing agency in your name

have been registered to you continuously for 12 calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle

have a UK address on the registration certificate
There are also a few rules on the new vehicle that is to be bought from participating in the scheme. The weight of the car or small van can not exceed 3,500kg; it must be first registered in the UK on or after 18 May 2009 and it must be declared new at first registration in the UK with no former keepers.
