Traffic levels fall across Britain

There has been a fall in the amount of traffic using Britain's roads.

The Department of Transports latest figures show us there has been a decrease of 0.5% in overall traffic levels between the first half of 2007 and 2008.

Fewer car users as credit crunch bites

A poll has shown that rising costs are forcing people out of their cars.

The poll for Abbey Mortgages has shown that people are tightening their belts because of rising prices, and it's having a major impact on how much we drive.

Government has back-tracked on planned fuel duty hike

Chancellor Alistair Darling has announced that the proposed 2p/litre fuel duty rise will not take place in October as planned.

"The global credit crunch and sharp rise in world oil prices have pushed up prices at the pump," said Darling. "Today's decision will help motorists and businesses get through what is a difficult time for everyone." (You'd never guess there was an important by-election coming up)

High polluting company cars escape tax changes

High-polluting cars that are already in use by fleets will be able to bypass new tax rules that come into force next year.

The news could lead to a rush to get such cars onto fleets before next April, as well as some fleet operators extending lease contracts for high-polluting cars.

“Drivers of some executive cars will get their orders in quickly to try to beat the changes,” said Ian Tilbrook, managing director of ING Car Lease.

“But with lead-in times of over six months, they will have to be quick.”

Risk in Fleet 2008

The Risk in Fleet conference in to be held on the 22nd April 2008, at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham.

The event is an opportunity for fleet operators to attend to gain advice on financial and corporate risk.  There will be an expert briefing on the new Corporate Manslaughter Act and detailed financial briefing for fleets to help tham plan for the next year.

Mercedes-Benz Goes Green!

At this years Geneva show Mercedes-Benz launched a new blue green brand - three C class models are first to get the treatment of the new blue efficiency range set to reduce emissions.  Although plans to introduce them into the UK are yet to be finalised.

Over the next year 20 Blue Efficiency models are set to roll out, with the Mercedes-Benz C180 Kompressor, C200 CDI and C350 CGI first in line - all cars have had weight saved on them through using a thinner windscreen, less sound proofing and lighter alloy wheels, with low-rolling resistance tyres.
