Citroen have officially announced the new C4 which they describe as “An all new car”. Every body panel has been replaced and sits on an adapted chassis of the existing model. Citroen have used a new welding technique which they say will save weight and in turn, increase the fuel economy. Dimensions of the new model have been increased, but from first glance the new C4 has an array of similarities to the current model.
The new C4 is entering a market of already impressive hatchback models like the Volkswagen Golf, and the all new Ford Focus which have an array of hi tech cabins, as the new C4 does, but Citroen say with improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions this model will be extremely competitive within it particular sector when launched
New technology implemented in the new C4 which will aid in gaining a competitive edge over its closest rivals. These technologies range from lane departure and blind spot warning systems, adaptive xenon headlights, speed limiter with road memory settings to etouch, which Is an electrical system that monitors driving style and offers the driver suggestions of how to improve their fuel economy.
Other small personalising options for the driver are available such as changing the colours of the backlights on the dashboard and setting polyphonic sounds alerts just as you would on a mobile telephone.
Citroen have put great emphasis on creating a stylish, modern and technologically advanced car but have kept the fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions at the forefront of design and implementation.
The engine specifications are yet to be confirmed, but there will almost certainly be a 1.6 litre diesel variant which will be combined with and electrical power plant as a hybrid. The coupling of this with low resistance tyres and start stop technology will be able to deliver CO2 emissions of 109g/km at the launch stage and expected to drop to 99g/km in future models.
Citroen are not expected to create a high performance model of the C4 or even a coupe version like on the current model and the C4 will only be available as a 5 door hatchback.
Citroen will be debut the new C4 at the
Whether the new C4 will be able to compete with its closest rivals in an ever growing and competitive sector of the hatchback market will remain to be seen, and will the absence of a coupe model inhibit sales.
