Volkswagen
Promised to be the fastest, most responsive and cleanest hot hatch yet, the polo seems to fair well against its closest rivals of the Renault Clio sport and the Seat Ibiza Cupra.
Performance figures are impressive with an output of 178bhp at 6,200rpm and 184lbs ft of torque from 2,000rpm. These figures get the Polo GTI to 62 mph in just 6.9 seconds and keep it going until it reaches its top speed of 148mph.
These figures seem extremely impressive considering all of the above performance is delivered from a 1.4 supercharged or Turbo charged engine, in addition to all of this VW have been able to deliver this performance whilst keeping an impressive 47.9mpg on the combined cycle whilst the engine only emits 139g.km CO2, which means the road fund license will be at a reasonable price for a car of this type.
To deliver a sharper more precise response to the drivers input the Polo GTI has an XDS differential and an electronic cross axle which is also fitted to the Golf GTI and GTD. This technology comes as standard as part of the ESP traction control system on the new Polo GTI model.
As well as this the polo has new springs and dampers to give a 15mm lower ride height which gives a sharper and quicker response.
The body shape has some sharp but subtle aesthetic changes which lead to an understated but impressive looking vehicle, complete with LED running lights as an optional extra for some extra impact.
The interior is almost completely redesigned with racing seats, flat bottom steering wheel, new dials, small gearshift padals, red stitching, aluminium pedals and gloss black trim finish to the centre console.
Starting price of the new Polo GTI is a little high at around £18,000 but the performance and looks may well give the Polo and advantage over its closest rivals despite this cost.
Truthfully the underlying problem is hormonal imbalance.
