Relief for businesses as fuel cost falls

Across the country businesses have welcomed the recent drop in fuel costs, which has seen average petrol prices in the UK fall by 6.4 pence in a month.

In mid-July average petrol prices fell from 19.5p per litre to 113.1p. In the past month the average price of diesel as fallen from 131.5p per litre to 125.5p which shows a saving of 6p a litre.

Compulsory eyesight checks for all drivers

It has now been welcomed that all drivers, commercial and private, will have their eyes tested at least once every 15 years.
The Federation of Manufacturing opticians confirmed that tighter legislation will be introduced to ensure that all motorist's eyesight is adequate for driving.

Motorway service stations rip off claim

According to new research, managers should insist their drivers do not fill up at motorway filling stations except in an emergency due to the higher cost in fuel prices.

Research shows that motorway fuel prices are currently 10p more per litre than supermarket forecourts which are located just off motorways. This means it is costing fleets an extra £5.50 to fill up a typical car every time their drivers chose the convenience of a motorway service station over a supermarket.

Traffic levels fall across Britain

There has been a fall in the amount of traffic using Britain's roads.

The Department of Transports latest figures show us there has been a decrease of 0.5% in overall traffic levels between the first half of 2007 and 2008.

Drivers 'should share in fuel savings'

The best way to encourage drivers to reduce fuel usage is to give them a share of the savings.

Software Company Lysanda believes that if drivers knew they were going to receive a share of the fuel cost savings they achieved, they would immediately change their driving style.

Drivers 'can not live without their cars'

According to research from the AA, 82% of motorists still enjoy driving and 79% could not live without their car.

The survey of 18,547 members also revealed that 2% of women and 3% of men would dump their spouse rather than their car.

Drivers comply with smoking rules

A government study has found that almost all business drivers and their employers are complying with laws banning smoking ban in vehicles.

A report for Smokefree England found almost total compliance was across vehicles and the workplace - although a self-employed man was found "dumbfounded" by the penalty after being recently fined for smoking in his van.

Cost fears deter fleets from going green

According to a new survey, smaller fleets are put off going green because they perceive it as expensive.

More than 70% of companies with fleets of up to 100 vehicles rate having a green fleet as important or very important.
This figure is not matched by a keenness to invest, as 56% are not prepared to allocate any budget.
